Kidnappers seize 2 business men in Kogi, demand N5 million ransom


Two prominent business men in Ikakumo-Akoko , Akoko North West Local Government Area of Ondo State were yesterday kidnapped by gunmen in Akunu and Ayere communities in Kogi State.

A witness, Mrs kudi Obayan , said the victims were in a Honda Accord car travelling when the gunmen waylaid them and took two of the occupants to the bush.

One of the occupants was allowed to go and told by the gunmen to to report the incident to the families of the victims for arrangements for payment ransom.

A farmer who was working in his farm during the incident , said he heard the sound of gunshots while the gunmen were attempting to seize the victims.

It was learnt that the vehicle conveying the passengers before they were abducted was taken away ,but was later abandoned on the road .

Police in Akunu said the spot where the kidnappers struck fell within Kogi State territory.

Soldiers at the military check point in the vicinity, vigilance group in the area and local hunters have been combing the forest with the intention to arrest the gunmen and rescue the victims.

The kidnappers according to a source, have demanded N5 million as ransom for the release of their captives.

Last week , two persons travelling along Ayere Akunu-Auga-Ise road were kidnaped in the axis .

To this end, residents of the area have urged the police to increase security network in all border towns of Ondo State.
