Police in Edo State have arrested two teenagers – Victor Monday (16) and Isaac Elache (17) – for their alleged involvement in abduction.
They were nabbed while attempting to use wooden gun to kidnap a businessman based at Udo in Ovia South West Local Government Area.
It was learnt that luck ran out of the two suspects after their victim pointed a torch in their face and raised the alarm when he discovered that the object they had was a wooden gun.
The suspects confessed that they were lured into a kidnap gang by Victor’s elder brother, Peter.
One of the suspects, Isaac, who was paraded at the state Police Command Headquarters, Benin, said Peter gave him the wooden gun with which to abduct their victim.
According to him, he accosted their victim at his residence and pointed the wooden gun at him.
He said: “When I told the man to move he pointed a torch in my face and I ran away. I was scared. It was my first attempt to kidnap somebody.”
On his part, Victor said he did not go with them to the victim’s place as he was asked to wait at a bush path. The suspect disclosed that he was reluctant to go with his elder brother for the abduction business.
He said: “I am 16 years old. It was my half elder brother, Peter, who took me for kidnapping. I am an apprentice barber. He came to my shop and said I should follow him somewhere. I didn’t want to go. He went with my friend to the place.
My friend came back and said he pointed the fake gun at the victim. When the victim pointed torch at him he ran away. It was my first time and I was scared. We hid in the bush and as we were going home, vigilantes arrested us.”
