US authorities say they found around 30kgs of marijuana packed into the luggage of 21-year-old rapper Juice Wrld, who died after collapsing at a Chicago airport.
Celebrity gossip website TMZ has obtained photos of several suitcases that appear to be filled with drugs and are alleged to have been on the hip-hop artist’s private plane.
Law enforcement officials uncovered “41 ‘vacuum-sealed’ bags of marijuana, six bottles of prescription codeine cough syrup, two 9 mm pistols, a .40-caliber pistol, a high-capacity ammunition magazine and metal-piercing bullets” on the aircraft, reports the Chicago Tribune.
Police and FBI agents were waiting for Juice Wrld’s plane when it landed at the airport at Midway Airport early on Sunday morning (local time), suspecting he was in possession of the drugs and weapons.
Police say he started convulsing while they were speaking to him and others on the twin-engine Gulfstream jet and was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital.
An official cause of death has not yet been determined for Juice Wrld, who’s real name is Jarad Anthony Higgins.
TMZ also reports an unnamed source claims the ‘Lucid Dreams’ hitmaker took “several unknown pills” before suffering seizures.
The rapper had previously been open about his drug use in interviews, and has made several references to substance abuse in his lyrics.
Christopher Long, 36, and Henry Dean, 27, two security guards who were with Higgins at the time, were arrested on gun charges, according to the Chicago Police Department.
