Suspected hoodlums on Friday allegedly killed a man identified as Osasu John Omoruyi, in Benin, the Edo State capital.

The victim was said to have been abducted by two men from a beer spot along Sakponba area and taken to Uwa Street, off First East Circular Road Benin, where he was killed in cold blood.

It was gathered that late Omoruyi was hacked to death with a cutlass around 11pm.

A witness said he was relaxing on the balcony of his house at about 11.50pm when he saw a saloon car drive into the street. “Immediately the car stopped, two men dragged a young man out, forced him to seat on the ground and started shouting at him. One of the men afterwards ran into the car and brought a cutlass which he used to dismember his body.”

He said operatives of Esigie Divisional police station were later called by sympathisers to remove the body.

When contacted, the State Police spokesman, DSP. Moses Nkombe, confirmed the incident. He said the police are on the trail of the assailants, assuring that they would be apprehended and prosecuted.
