The Court of Appeal Abuja division yesterday affirmed the Code of Conduct Tribunal’s jurisdiction to try Senate President Bukola Saraki on charges of false assets declaration brought against him by the federal government.
The Court of Appeal declared that the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) has prosecutorial power to try Saraki and dismissed the appeal he filed challenging the legality of his trial before the tribunal.
In the lead judgment delivered by Justice Abdul Aboki, the Appellate Court held that the major issues raised by Saraki to fault and challenge his trial at the CCT have been overtaken by events.
All the four other members of the panel unanimously agreed with the lead judgment delivered by Justice Aboki who resolved all the eight issues formulated for determination against the appellant.
Justice Aboki said that the contention was sentimental and that no court will go into sentimental issues that have no bearing with the law.
