A man suspected to be insane has macheted and killed three male pupils at a primary school in Borno town.
Sources said the man invaded Jaffi Primary School, located at the outskirts of Kwaya, in Kwaya Kusa Local Government Area early Thursday, with a cutlass.
“He arrived the school wielding a cutlass at about 8:00am. He attacked the pupils and killed three of them. About five other pupils were also injured in the attack,” a security source at Kwaya Kusa told Daily Sun.
He said the assailant was later apprehended by residents and security personnel. “He is with the police now,” a resident said.
Meanwhile, the police have identified the man who hacked down the three male pupils.
Police Public Relations Officer, Victor Isuku, in a statement, named the assailant as Gaji Adamu, of Lube village, and that he only matcheted two male pupils to death.
“At about 09:30 hour, one Gaji Adamu ‘male’ of lube village of kwaya kusar LGA, suspected to be of unsound mind, armed with matchete entered into Jafi Primary School, Kwaya Kusar town and matcheted two male pupils to death,” Isuku said. He also disclosed that a teacher and a female pupil were wounded in the attack.
“Some irate youths mobbed the suspect, leaving him unconscious. He was unconscious and has been admitted in hospital, under protective custody,” he said. Isuku also disclosed that the remains of the pupils have been evacuated to nearby Gombe General Hospital.
He said Commissioner of Police, Damian Chukwu, has directed the Divisional Police Officer at Kwaya kusar to transfer the suspect to the State Criminal investigation and intelligence department (CIID) for a discreet investigation and to determine the mental state of the suspect.
Although the police said two pupils were killed in the incident, residents insisted they were three.
