Nigeria Association of Women Journalist NAWOJ, Ekiti State Chapter has organized breast cancer awareness programme in Ekiti State.
The Chairperson, Ekiti NAWOJ, Mrs Fatima Bello said the programme was intended to enlighten women on the awareness of the killer disease.
The lecture series program came up at NUJ Press centre old governor’s office in Ado Ekiti.
Dr. Pius Adeojo, the guest lecturer delivered lecture on “Breast cancer, the earlier the detection the safer the World “.
Dr Adeojo said with advances in medical technologies, death from cancers have reduced considerably in the developed countries, adding that testimonies of the demystification of cancers abound all over the places in the western world.
He, lamented that the reverse is the case in Nigeria as several people lose their lives in prime age ,because of late presentations, delayed diagnosis and lack of adequate facilities for treatment, he lamented that Ekiti state also has her fair share of high rate of breast cancer-related deaths even among the high profile women.
He however commended the singular effort of His Excellency, Dr Kayode Fayemi and his wife, Her Excellency, Erelu Bisi Fayemi .
“The only centre we have in Ekiti today that we can call cancer awareness center, the Funmilayo Adunni Olayinka wellness center was built and equipped in 2013 in the memory of our deputy Governor who succumbed to the cruel hands of cancer.
“The excellencies are back again into the saddle of Ekiti State Government, with the second coming of the governor activities of the center will be scaled up to fulfill the vision of the founders”.
Notable personalities attended the programme and delivered lectures on the topic. The personalities in their lectures focused on the importance of taking natural therapy, fruits /foods to check mate the disease.
Other guest lecturers are Dr Idowu Bewaji and Mrs Abimbola Solanke who gave lectures on general health care and rundown on health facilities at Adunni Olayinka wellness center in Ado Ekiti respectively
The Awareness programme was attended by representatives of notable associations/NGOs which include, NLC Women’s wing, FOMWAN, Christian Women Association, Female Corpers RATTAWU etc.
NUJ Chairman in Ekiti State, Comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela, commended the guest lecturers, he remarked that ” the lectures would no doubt make positive impacts on the lives of all the participants.
NAWOJ Vice president, Zone B, Mrs Morenike Esan attended the program, which include Mrs. Oluwayemisi Ayokunle, a female assembly candidate from Ekiti SouthWest local Government.
