Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, has been sworn-in as the new Governor of Ekiti State.
Dr. Kayode Fayemi, who won the July 14 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State, under the platform of the All progressives Congress, APC, took oath of office with his deputy Otunba Bisi Egbeyemi, at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, along Iyin road.
Fayemi, whose vision is that Ekiti people live in dignity, where people are not hungry, said he would introduce social security schemes for the elderly, popularly called “owo arugbo”.
Governor Kayode Fayemi, who thanked Ekiti people for voting him for a second term in office, promised to do right to the people of the state.
Fayemi, who condemned the horrible experiences in the last four years under the last administration in the state, said the light of the knowledge and intellectuals which Ekiti people are known for added that Ekiti dignity will be restored under his administration.
The new Governor who said the last administration has plunged Ekiti State into a debt of over N170 billion, promised that documents to that effect will be made known to the public at the right time.
Fayemi, who was saddened that Ekiti workers were being owed six to eight months salaries, many states assets were not been accounted for said his government would seek out for the truth to put things in the right order.
Governor Fayemi, promised to re-introduced the social security schemes for the elderly and re-visit tourism, roads, agriculture and take on new programmes for the development of the state.
According to Fayemi, his government will focus on four areas to include agric and rural development, social investment, knowledge based economy, women and youth empowerment, YCard for the youths.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Mr. Boss Mustapha, assured Ekiti people that the Federal Government would support the new administration in its quest for development in the state.
President Buhari, who said he knows Governor Fayemi very well, said that Ekiti has returned to a state of decency and civility.
“I know him very well, he always delivered on any assignment given to him”, just as he rolls out programmes being executed in Ekiti State by the Federal government.
He noted that 2019 budget would include Ado/Akure road project and that the FG would also assist the state for the lost grounds.
Present at the massive ceremony include Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former Chairman of the APC, Chief Odigie Oyegun, Chief Bisi Akande, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Chief Audu Ogbe, diplomatic Corps, and traditional rulers both within and outside the state.
