An herbalist, Shina Segun, has been arrested for allegedly raping a teenager suffering from epilepsy.

It was gathered that the incident occurred at Ile-Oba in Ijanikin, Ojo, Lagos State.

Segun, 35, it was learnt, forcefully had s*x with the girl after he asked her mother to go and prepare pap the teenager would take after her medication.

According to Ben Bruce Foundation, which handled the case, the victim became epileptic in 2015 and was withdrawn from school due to the stigma.

A representative of the foundation, Olu-Adebiyi Ore, said to seek help for her daughter, the mother approached the herbalist for healing.

Ore said: “Shina Segun advised the woman to bring her daughter to his house for the healing process to begin and she agreed out of desperation. He told the mother to go and prepare food (pap) for the child, saying the herbs would make her vomit and it was compulsory for the girl to eat afterwards.

“The mother rushed home to prepare the pap, only to return and find people gathered around her crying daughter outside Segun’s house. The girl lamented that Segun forcefully removed her pant, covered her mouth and raped her.”

Continuing, Ore said the case was reported at Ijanikin Police Station, Lagos.

“It was transferred to the Gender Unit where the suspect was charged to court on November 23. He was remanded in prison custody and the casefile was sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice,” he said.
