‘Sham Sham’ is not Ivlyn Mutua’s usual music video; converting from one genre to the other is a tremendous and difficult decision for any artist usually. Ivlyn will definitely face the music from disappointed fans, but we are convinced that her decision will bring swell amounts of opportunities for the young and aspiring star.
We had a brief Q&A with the star this week and this is what she had to say:
• WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO CONVERT FROM THE GOSPEL GENRE?
‘Because I am trying to grow my brand further, and grow my fan base; by making an impact on people who are not religious also I never really felt like being in the gospel genre was my calling.’
• WHAT WAS THE PROCESS FOR FILMING ‘SHAM SHAM’ LIKE?
‘It was extremely tiresome, energetic but fun. To me, this felt right I didn’t feel embarrassed I felt free; and I also discovered things I didn’t know about myself, for example, realizing I am a good actress. The shoot was very eye-opening I did not struggle with anything-I was just at peace.’
• NOW THAT YOU’RE NOT DOING GOSPEL ARE YOU STILL A CHRISTIAN OR?
‘My decision to change is purely a career and business move in pursuing my dream which is to grow my brand to the global mainstream stage. It has NOTHING to do with my personal, social and spiritual life.’
The Q&A comes to an end with Ivlyn Mutua quoting a scripture from the Bible: Romans 8:38-39-For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
