A young man accused by the police of stabbing his uncle to death while asleep has been remanded in prison by a Katsina magistrate’s court.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Sani Ado, told the court that Murtala Abdullahi stabbed his uncle, Ahmed Umar, 50, while he was asleep on December 8, at Gidan Goma, Bazanga village in Danja LGA of the state.

He said both Abdullahi and Umar were living in the same house, adding that “one Aminu Umaru who resided in the same house with them reported the incident at Danja police station before the arrest of the suspect.

The deceased died before any help could get to him according to police first information report deposited at the court.

Ado, while pleading with the court to give the prosecution more time to further investigate the matter, noted that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Penal Code Law.

In her ruling, the presiding magistrate, Fadila Dikko, said the accused was only brought in for mention as the court has no jurisdiction for culpable homicide which could only be tried at the High Court.

She then adjourned the case to February 26 next year for further mention and asked the accused to be remanded in prison custody till then.
