A mother of seven children who allegedly dumped her newborn baby girl in a soak away pit in Bauchi has attributed her action to extreme poverty affecting the family.
Juliana James who lives in Goru area of the state capital, was paraded by the police Friday alongside 130 other suspects who were arrested by the officers of the state police command.
The suspect who occupation is fries Bean cake to make a living said that it was poverty that led her to dumped the newborn baby into a soak away.
Mrs James informed journalists in an interview that she and her husband had an accident three months ago and had seven other children to take care of which according to her is a great burden for a woman who has nothing to do and her husband is indisposed.
“As a result of the poverty the family are into now, the small business that am doing I can no longer do my business because we have used the capital and the profit for feeding and the hospital bills for my husband, that is why I dumped the newborn
baby girl into a pit toilet, adding that I cannot provide for eight children,my husband and I now.
“It was after I dumped my baby in a soak away I called my neighbours to come and save the baby due to her cry that touched my heart,” Juliana said.
Juliana who confessed that he did not seek help from any organisation, churches or the government to help the family said that she regretted her action and is seeking God’s forgiveness and praying for the quick recovery of the baby girl.
In the same vein some serial kidnappers Bello Shomo, Mohammed Zailani, Lawal Wakili and Isah lawal were also paraded.
According to the police, Bello Shomo was arrested three times, Lawal Wakili was arrested three times, Isah Lawal was arrested four times while Mohammed Zailani was a first time offender.
Also paraded were Rabo Mohammed,a kidnapper and rapist, Ibrahim Ahmadu, Abubakar Mohammadu, and Saidu Abubakar who kidnapped and placed ransom on their victims.
