Ogun: Hoodlums shoot, kill policeman conveying election results

A police corporal, Sunday Idoko, has been shot dead by unknown gunmen while escorting election results in Ogun State.

The incident happened about 8:00pm on Sunday at Eredo area in Yewa South Local Government Area of the state.

New Telegraph gathered that the policeman was escorting election results from Ipokia to the collation centre in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government, when suspected hoodlums, who had laid ambush at Eredo, shot at the vehicle in which he was riding.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the incident in a telephone interview with our correspondent.

Oyeyemi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the vehicle was conveying election results of the House of Representatives for Ipokia/Yewa South Federal Constituency to Oronna Hall in Ilaro.

The police spokesman, however, said the election results still remain intact.

He stated that the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal Investigate and Intelligence Department, Wale Abass, to commence investigation into the incident and bring the suspected killers to justice.

Oyeyemi said, “The unfortunate incident happened on Sunday evening when he was escorting election results to Ilaro. The hoodlums laid ambushed for the vehicle conveying the result.

“No arrest has been made yet but we are on the trail of the suspects. We are going to arrest them.”
