A 21-year-old boy, Sulaiman Ashimu, has been killed by gunmen while grazing his cows.

The attack, according to the Secretary of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Barkin Ladi, occurred around 5 p.m yesterday at Kassa village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.

The Fulani leader said: “The boy was grazing in the bush and at 5 p.m some armed youths, who I can confirm were Berom boys, attacked the boy with guns. They shot him and made away with 90 cows.

“At the time we got the information, we rushed there and discovered that the boy was dead. Soldiers of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) from Sector 7 chased the gunmen and recovered the cows.”

The Director of Miyetti Allah in Plateau, Muhammed Adam, hailed the soldiers and Barkin Ladi Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for their prompt response and rescue of the cattle.

According to him, there were 10 armed Berom rustlers who attacked 21 cattle rearers.

Adam urged the government to provide tight security for his people.

“Miyetti Allah believes in peace. We don’t want a crisis. The Berom youths should stop attacking our people. We are all Nigerians and we should live together without rancour,” he said.

The late Ashimu, Adam said, is survived by aged parents.
